The mobile telecom industry standards project – 3GPP is making a welcome return to the MECC, from August 19 to 23. This time the assembled Working Groups of the project will be doing the detailed specification work on 5G features and services that continue the development of the 3GPP system beyond day-to-day user communication towards a fully connected ‘internet of things’.

One of the key advances in 5G – and in early planning for 6G standards for the 2030s – is the variety of use cases that are being drawn to this cellular technology, from transport systems, healthcare, Industrial automation, robotics, public safety, utilities… in fact, every conceivable technology sector is considering how best to use the ultra-reliable networks being worked on by 3GPP member companies.

3GPP has recently hosted its plenaries at the MECC, in March 2024 – with over 500 delegates attending. The Working Groups from August 19 to 23 are expected to attract over 1800 experts for the detailed study and specification work.
